Michigan Monday: Any Win Over OSU is a Good Win

Congrats to Michigan Basketball and Trey Burke for a successful night on Friday.  Michigan is no longer dominating opponents, but I will take 8–10-point conference wins anytime!

  • Congrats to coach Mac making it to the Super Bowl.  I said this weeks ago, but Seattle plays Michigan Football.
  • I have no idea what the Steelers are doing?  Mike McCarthy is not a good coach.  That guy must interview really well.
  • Scotty starts his season with a W

  • Utah's Cam Rising is retiring from playing football and will be the OC for Michigan QB commit Brady Smigiel.
  • Trey Burke believes he will have his number retired at Michigan.  I support a circle of fame but keep the number in rotation.   This is why football doesn't retire numbers.   It's an honor to wear #2, #1, #55, or #10 at Michigan.

Michigan Monday: Win Some and Lose Some in the Portal

The transfer portal has been good to the Wolverines this off season.  They got a QB and the #1 RB in the country.  This weekend there were some wins and some loses.

  • Michigan got Clemson DT Tre Williams transfer on Saturday.  He had 2 sacks in the CFP this season against Texas.
  • Michigan also got D2 All American offensive lineman from National Champion Ferris State in Lawrence Hatter who is 6'5 330 and had offers from the likes of UNC, MSU, Wisconsin and others.
  • Michigan has offered App. State WR Robinson
  • Michigan lost out on WSU OT Fa'alili Fa'amoe who signed with Wake Forest
  • Tyler Morris picked Indiana as his next destination
  • UConn WR Bell (reportedly ran into admission issues) will stay at UConn
  • Weekend visitor Yale WR David Pantelis picked Stanford over Michigan
  • The Baylor QB Michigan didn't pick, Finn is transferring to Miami of Ohio
  • USC Branch Brothers to Georgia
Now on to the Detroit Lions.  I never thought I would see the Detroit Lions be the #1 seed.  I didn't think it was possible.  It happened last night.   My take prior to last night was that the Lions offense was Super Bowl worthy but their defense was not.  The defense played great and was the MVP of the game.  Hopefully, they can continue to get healthy in the next 2 weeks.

Now my concern is Goff has one his random bad games during the playoffs.  I thought he played terrible for a good amount of time last night.   Got away with that grounding in the end zone, threw a pick on a screen, almost got Gibbs killed on a bad screen pass, then nearly threw a pick 6 on another screen pass.   He did wake up and made some nice throws on 4th down and Lions won running away.  He has been great in Detroit, but he also has these random bad games out of nowhere.
  • Blake Corum gets his first NFL start and breaks his arm.
  • Michigan starting QB Davis Warren tore his ACL in Tampa but is expected back next season.
  • WR Peyton O'Leary is also expected back next season.
  • Joe Milton had a nice game for the Pats, after it they fired their head coach
  • Michigan Basketball had a nice road win in LA over USC
  • Could Michigan's top 2 rivals OSU and ND play for the national title?

Wolverine Wednesday: News and Notes

There isn't much to report on the Michigan front today so we look to college football or other topics.

  • Tennessee is going to charge its fans a 10% talent fee on top of their regular ticket prices.   Isn't tickets a 100% talent fee?
  • This is True:

  • This is college football now: He was very inexpensive,” Gundy said after Ezeigbo was named Big 12 newcomer of the week.  He is speaking about a Division 2 transfer.
  • Wojo is retiring from ESPN to be the Bonnies GM in college basketball.  He must of invested wisely.
  • Ben Mason has retired from football.  Thank you Ben!

Michigan Friday: Is Michigan's Future QB Visiting This Weekend?

There is a 2026 QB from Florida that has the most Michigan name ever, Brady Hart which combines the last names of two of the greatest Wolverines ever, Tom Brady and Mike Hart.

Brady is 6'4 180 pounds and plays at Cocoa, Florida.  He is rated the 92th prospect in the country and 7th QB to 24/7 Composite.   He has only 1 early prediction and its to Clemson.   I'm very familiar with this area and Cocoa can produce very good athletes but the school is not known for its academics.

Brady's father was a pitcher at Florida and was drafted by the Pirates.   Welcome to Ann Arbor Brady!

  • Michigan Basketball signed a home and home with TCU, which means former Wolverine transfer Frankie Collins will get to play in Ann Arbor again.  Frankie is at his 3rd program.
  • The Michigan coaches seem pretty happy on social media, does that mean another prospect committed?  Best Guess is Safety Kainoa Winston.
  • Former ND commit athlete Shaun Terry is also in town for his official visit.
  • NBA Championship is 3-0 and Stanley Cup Finals 3-0.  Not great for TV ratings.
  • ESPN's Pete Thamel should never talk Michigan Football.  Heard an update from him this week and it was completely uninformed.
  • Have a great Father's Day Everyone!

Michigan Thursday: Lots of Info

This is mega news and notes today as there seems to be a lot of information in the wind about the Wolverines Football and Basketball programs.

  • Cristian Dixon hit the portal after the WR to CB didn't work out.  He was a 4-star WR that never worked out.  Michigan needs a WR in the portal for an offense that just lost a top NFL Draft pick (probably) and doesn't want money.  That is going to be hard to find. Good luck to Cristian at his next stop.
  • Michigan has offered a DT in the portal from Kent State who is from the same Illinois HS as JJ and Tyler Morris.
  • FAU's top player Johnell Davis is not expected to join Dusty in Ann Arbor and looks to be headed to the NBA Draft.
  • Former Wolverine Big Man Tarris Reed has transferred to Back-to-Back National Champions UConn Huskies.  Congrats to Mr. Reed!
  • Dusty is expected to have these visitors on campus this weekend.  Auburn's Tre Donaldson and Roddy Gayle Jr from that school in Columbus.
  • Mike Sainristil and Jaylen Harrell are throwing out the first pitch today at the Tigers game.
  • Scottie Pippen's kid is a 2024 recruit and is expected to announce his decision no Friday.
  • Reports are Michigan Football will be looking to kick the tires in the portal for a QB, Big WR, CB, Safety, DT and a TE.
  • Pro Football Talk says "everything is up in the air" for Dax Hill in the Bengals secondary.  Isn't everything up in the air for a DB?
  • UCLA WR Kyle Ford has Michigan in his top 6.  He could step into the #1 WR role in Ann Arbor.  I won't hold my breathe.
  • Freddie Moore is getting some nice buzz out of Spring Ball at WR.
  • Miami LB Commit Elijah Melendez was blown away about his visit to Michigan.
  • QB commit Carter Smith will be in town for 5 days this week.  Carter is recruiting hard for his future team.
  • Two players we are not expected to see on Saturday due to injury: Cabana and Tuttle.

Michigan Tuesday - Friday: Catch Up

Sorry Big House Blog readers, I had a business trip where I thought I would be able to find extra time to write the blog this week.   That clearly didn't happen, my apologies.

  • Will Johnson has been rumored to be getting huge NIL offers from other schools like Alabama.  His family says he is staying in Ann Arbor!  Thank you!  He also said on IG that he will be in the new NCAA 2025 that is expected to be released this summer.
  • Donovan Edwards also signs an NIL deal with EA Sports and is expected to be in the game and endorse it.
  • Speaking of Alabama, you know that Keon Sabb transferred there early this week.  He had a great game against Alabama in the Rose Bowl, but the coaching staff now of course is from UW.  I'm sure there was 0 tapering going on here and everything was above board.  😠
  • Former Michigan LB coach twice, Chris Partridge has gotten a job with the Seattle Seahawks, I love how Mike MacDonald has taken care of his boys.   I know it was a messy break up with Chris, but I think he is a good coach that players love.
  • Adrian Peterson who I walked by at the National Championship is having some money issues.
  • Mazi Smith's didn't pay for his storage locker and some lucky guy got a ton of his old Michigan Jordan PE shoes, Legos and much more.  The guy who won the auction is going to make a killing.  That is my kind of Storage Wars!
  • Jim seems to be hiring USC RB coach Kiel McDonald for the same role with the Chargers.  That should but to bed that rumor about Mike Hart.
  • The hits keep coming for Michigan Basketball as Nkamhoua is out for the rest of the season with a wrist injury.
  • Michigan Basketball also dropped another game to Northwestern.

Michigan Thursday: 2024 Coming in Hot

Patrick Barron

2024 is off to an interesting start.  Michigan won a Rose Bowl and a National Championship in a 7 day window.  Then yesterday Pete Carroll leaves his head coaching role with the Seahawks, Nick Saban retires from Alabama, and today Bill Belichick leaves the Patriots.  All these openings is not great for Jimmy staying in Ann Arbor.

Michigan beating Alabama in the Rose Bowl will be Nick's final game.
  • As I mentioned yesterday, we are going to see players leave the program this week.  WR's Jake Thaw and Darius Clemons both entered the portal. I had really high hopes for Darius but he never really saw the field.
  • CJ Stokes will be staying within the Michigan family and will play for Biff at Charlotte
  • Michigan will have a parade on Saturday for the NC and  a special celebration at Crisler
  • Michigan is America's Team:  Average viewers for National Championship 25M+, Rose Bowl 27M+, and Ohio State Game 19M+
  • The NCAA President said, Michigan won the National Championship fair and square
  • Dug is suspended for 6 road games due to an academic issue
  • OSU CB Denzel Burke returning to OSU next season
  • Michigan seniors Wilson, McGregor, and Barner are all headed to the Senior Bowl. Updated: Also going Keegan, Henderson, Harrell, Sainristil. and Barrett.
  • Former Michigan DC and current Ravens DC Mike MacDonald is expected to interview for the Titans opening (not great for keeping Minter).
  • Alabama is expected to hire Dan Lanning to replace Nick Saban.  Reports are Dan is already interviewing for the gig.

Michigan Thursday: News and Notes

Wolverine Wednesday: Championship Week News and Notes

Michigan ended up at #2 in the CFP rankings last night which means they would play Washington if everything ends up "chalk" this weekend.  The issue is Washington is almost a 10 point dog to Oregon and FSU at #4 is missing their QB.   Bama and Texas will need some help jumping into the CFP this weekend.   OSU is also lurking around at #6.

Will Johnson actually got hurt in practice during OSU week.  He did his best to play in the game and had a pick but couldn't continue in the 2nd half.  He is questionable this weekend and I expect he won't play against Iowa's high powered offense.  He of course wants to play.

Mike Hart was hired by Michigan off the IU staff where he was very popular and did a tremendous job with the RB's.  He will now interview for the IU head coaching role.  Don't know if you can win there, so I would hope he considers that if he gets an offer.  Tom Allen hinted when he got fired that IU hasn't really embraced NIL yet.  Also the entire team is in the transfer portal.

Big Ten Defensive and Special Team Honors:

1st Team: Mason Graham, Will Johnson
2nd: Junior Colson, Ken Grant, Kris Jenkins, Mike Sainristil
3rd: Mike Barrett, Rod Moore
HR: Harrell, McGregor, Moore, Paige, Stewart, and Wallace

Special Teams:
2nd: James Turner
3rd: Tommy Doman
HR: Semaj Morgan

  • Over 19M viewers watched The Game! Peaked at nearly 23M
  • Oregon State hired its DC Trent Bray to replace Jontahan Smith who jumped to MSU
  • If Michigan wants to keep Harbaugh's name from being tied to every NFL head coach opening, they better get him signed to a very long extension ASAP!
  • David Ojabo has a partially torn ACL
  • Wisconsin RB Braelon Allen who was rumored to be a transfer candidate to Michigan last off season, has declared for the NFL Draft.
  • Today is #6 CoJo's Birthday!
  • Michigan has offered a soon to be Penn graduate Defensive Lineman out of the portal named Joey Slackman.  Joey is a FCS All-American and could be a great replacement for Kris Jenkins next year.  Some consider him the top player in the portal.

Wolverine Wednesday: Midweek News and Notes

  • There is some information floating around that Michigan's starting safeties Moore and Paige have minor injuries and could miss Saturday's game.  Which would mean Sabb and Quinten Johnson are probably next in line to take their place.
  • Bell News: Ronnie Bell has seemed to have made the 49'ers.  His brother, a true freshman at Michigan, has moved his position from QB to WR.
  • Brad Robbins has won the putting job at Cincinnati; he beat out a former Buckeye punter.
  • I'm looking for my man, Cam Goode to have a break out season as he has been getting praise from the Michigan coaches.
  • Olivier Nkamhoua has been playing well in the World Cup for Finland and just faced off against the Wagner brothers.
