Michigan Monday: Wolverines Draft in Review

If there was one common theme for Michigan in the 2026 Draft, it was the former Wolverines finding homes with familiar faces.  Let's take a look at where all the Wolverines landed, even the undrafted free agents (UDFA).

-Derrick Moore to the Detroit Lions in the 2nd Round.  Staying home!

-Marlin Klein to the Houston Texans in the 2nd Round to play with Nico!

-Jaishawn Barham to the Dallas Cowboys in the 3rd where many Wolverines have been drafted!

-Jimmy Rolder to the Detroit Lions in the 4th round.  Staying home!

-Max Bredeson to the Minnesota Vikings in the 5th, to play with JJ and who was even at his draft party!

-Rayshaun Benny to the Baltimore Ravens in the 7th to play for Coach Minter!

Recap: Finally the Lions start fishing from the local pond and pick up two talented Wolverines.  Marlin had a great combine which I think shot him up some draft boards, he is still nowhere near his ceiling.  Max is a perfect fit in Minnesota and Jesse Minter does Rayshaun a solid!

Special Note, very happy for former Michigan TE Matt Hibner, he spent 4 years on the roster and caught two passes behind some great Michigan TE's.  He went to SMU last year and had a very good year and was drafted in the 4th round, by guess who? Jesse Minter!

UDFA:

-Z signs with NY Giants and John Harbaugh

-McCulley to the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross

-Tommy Doman (transferred to FL) to the Bills

-Nikhai Hill Green (transferred to Charlotte, Colorado, Alabama) to the Rams

-TJ Guy to Ravens and Coach Minter

-Damon Payne to KC

Happy for all the players that found a home.  Also the sad story of Ernie Hausman continues and it will be interesting to see if he gets an invite for a tryout. Offensive lineman El-Hadi and Crippen and DT Tre Williams are still waiting for a UDFA contract or an invite to a Rookie Camp.

Michigan Friday: A Daft Draft

That was a strange opening night of the NFL Draft, it was a huge crowd but seemed to lack energy and then the picks started to roll in.  Here are a few things I questioned:

  • Tate was OSU's #2 WR and was picked #4 in the draft.  Has a college teams second best WR ever been taken #4 in the NFL Draft?
  • OSU had some really good players, must be the coaching that they didn't do better last season?
  • The NFL are drunk on QB's, taking Ty Simpson #13 is just dumb.  He can't help the Rams next season and is a 2nd round talent. Who has played 15 college football games.
  • KC trading picks to move up for the LSU CB, why?
  • The Lions had some decent choices for OT's and seemed to pick one with a ton of experience
  • Bama's Kaden Procter has a huge upside but struggles with his weight and focus, many are predicting a bust.  Sounds like the perfect Dolphins draft pick.
  • ND had both RB's drafted in the first round.
  • Michigan's new OL coach had two players drafted on Thursday! Including the top OT!

Michigan Players expected to get drafted:
  • Derrick Moore 3rd Round
  • Rayshaun Benny 3rd - 7th grade
  • Jaishawn Barham has a 4th round grade
  • Marlin Klein TE Round 4-5 Grade
  • TJ Guy has a day 3 late round grade
  • Donaven McCulley when on a top 30 visit but is expected to be a Day 3 pick up.
  • Jimmy Rolder, Round 5-7
  • Dominic Zvada Free Agent
  • Max Bredeson Free Agent

Michigan Basketball got a talented but often injured power forward out of the Portal from LSU in 6'10 245 pound Jalen Reed.  Jalen is coming off back to back season ending injuries but is a talented player if he can stay healthy.

Michigan Thursday: Wildcat Bites

Michigan Basketball team showed up outside of Chicago last night as the #2 in the nation with eyes on being #1.  The Northwestern Wildcats going in were 2-11 in the Big Ten and the Wolverines expected a layup line the entire game.  Michigan showed up "sleepy" and the Wildcats were not missing from the field.

Cadeau had one of his "turnover" games but was shooting well from 3.  The entire Michigan Basketball team looked disinterested in playing.   They found themselves down by 9 at half and surly would play better after the break.  Nope, the same teams hit the floor at the start of the 2nd and the Wildcats grew the lead to 16 points over the #2 team in the nation.

There were a few issues for the Wildcats, they were getting into foul trouble and there were hints they were starting to wear down.  Both were accurate as Cason showed up for Cadeau (who didn't play much in the 2nd) and scored 13 of his 18 points in the 2nd session.  Yax had another good game with 15 points, 12 boards, and really good defense when Michigan needed it (also led the team with 37 minutes).

Michigan did not wrestle the lead back until under 6 minutes in the game.  Then Northwestern tired and beat up didn't have any more gas left in the tank and lost by 12 points.

Here is why I like this comeback for the Wolverines.  This was one of the worst showing by this team all year and they still won by 12 points.   They got into deep waters down 16 and fought back and won.  NW was on fire and Michigan wasn't.   The only way to come back from 16 down is to play defense and that is what the Wolverines did.   The young guns off the bench won this game.   Cason had 18 and McKenney hit some big 3's for a total of 12 points.

A win on the road in the Big10 is a good win.  No matter the sport there always seems to be drama when Michigan heads to Chicago to play the Wildcats.  I'm still shaking my head over that game at Wrigley.

The combine invites are out and Michigan will have a nice showing at the event:

Did I mention yesterday that Dusty landed another big fish in recruiting?

Cosby, a 6-foot-10 versatile forward from the prestigious Montverde Academy, was long considered a consensus top-10 prospect in the 2027 class. However, his commitment came paired with the news of his reclassification into 2026. Despite moving up a year, Cosby remains one of the most coveted prospects in the country, currently sitting at No. 22 overall in the Rivals Industry Ranking and a high four-star (borderline five-star) on the 247Sports Composite.

Michigan Monday: A Busy Weekend

Let's get to the draft first.

Will did finally go to the Cardinals in the 2nd Round.  At least he is going somewhere warm.  I was 3 short on my prediction of 10 drafted Wolverines.  Here is a full list with the UDFA signings.

  1. Mason Graham to Cleveland
  2. Big Kenny Grant to Miami
  3. Colston Loveland to Chicago
  4. Will Johnson to Phoenix  (Round 2)
  5. Josaiah Stewart to LA Rams (Round 2)
  6. Kalel Mullins to Tennessee (Round 6)
  7. Myles Hinton to Philly (Round 6)
UDFA:
  • Donovan Edwards to the Jets
  • Makari Paige to the Giants
  • Josh Priebe to Miami
  • William Wagner to Cincy
  • AJ Henning to Miami (former Wolverine)
Congratulations to all the former Wolverines that found homes in the NFL this weekend.  Nice to have an NFL Owner with his name on Michigan's Business School!  Also Jim Harbaugh and Mike Macdonald drafted zero former Wolverines.

Not to be out done by the NFL Draft, Michigan landed 2 2026 commits including a QB.  For some reason Michigan seems to love the name "Brady" as a Michigan QB.  Brady Hart who was Michigan's 2026 QB decided to become at 2025 commit and headed to Texas A&M after Bryce committed to the Wolverines.  Now another Brady is headed to Ann Arbor:

4 Star QB Brady Smigel - A former FSU commit Brady is a 6'5 205 pound QB from California.  He always liked Michigan and started to get recruited by Chip Lindsey as soon as he took the job in Ann Arbor.  He is known as a pocket passer and a kid that can really spin it.  He is rated 4 stars to all the services and has a host of offers.  His top schools after leaving Florida State included South Carolina, Washington, and UCLA.

3 Star Tariq Boney is 6'3 230 pound edge rusher from DC.  Who quickly learned that Michigan Football is already crowned as DE U.  Boney Toney (too early?) offer list includes: Georgia, Wash, WVU, CAL, Tenn, Wisconsin, Penn State, BC, and others.

Welcome Brady and Tariq!

Michigan Friday: When Will He?

Michigan started out like a fireball in the NFL Draft last night.

🔥 Mason goes #5 to the Browns
🔥 Loveland goes #10 to the Bears
🔥 Big Kenny goes #13 to the Dolphins

Will must be soon after right?  A consensus top 10 pick before his injury last season.   The best CB in the Draft!

Will did not get drafted in round 1.  Insiders are reporting there is concern around a long term knee injury and that is the reason he wouldn't run the 40 for teams and privately the rumors were he was running in the 4.6 range.  That is the type of information (accurate or not) that drops a player from Day 1 to Day 2.  If not for Deion's kid also dropping out of Round 1, Will would have been the lead story of the night.

Will might have considered heading over to Lambo last night and running the 40 in his white suit.

I hope someone picks him early in Round 2.  If not, his medical is a real concern and not just a rumor.

Update: reports are that Colston Loveland was the "hot" player of the draft last night and that many teams wanted him.  The reason there wasn't any trades in the mid 1st round picks was because the Bears took Loveland at 10.

Tonight:
We of course expect Will to go tonight.   The only other Wolverine that is projected to go on Day 2 is Edge rusher Josaiah Stewart.

Saturday:
  • Donovan Edwards
  • Kalel Mullins
  • Myles Hinton
  • Josh Priebe
  • Makari Paige
My expectation is 10 Wolverines will get drafted

Enjoy the Weekend!

  • Today is the final day of the College Football Transfer Portal Window for players to enter the portal.  You can still sign players past today that are in the portal.
  • This was not a mystery but Roddy Gayle Jr. is returning to Michigan next season.
  • Yaxel is expected to visit Ann Arbor this weekend as he decides between Michigan Basketball and the NBA Draft.

Michigan Thursday: Happy Draft Day

Michigan has a hand full of 1st round prospect that could have a great day tonight if their name is called:

  • Mason Graham has been a great player ever since he set foot in Ann Arbor.  He does not have the perfect NFL DL body but I expect him to be a very good player for a long time in the NFL.
  • Will Johnson has been rated the top CB in the draft for a long time and now that might be hurting him.  His late season injury and him not running the 40 has given some teams some concern.  Once a lock in the top 10, Will could be dropping due to issues with his presumed lack of top end speed.   Memo to GM's - don't pass up on Will, you will regret it.
  • Colston Loveland is a tremendous NFL prospect with a hybrid TE and WR mode.  I love him in the NFL and it will be interesting if NFL GM's understand that.  I don't expect him to get past Harbaugh in the 1st round.   The only negative is the occasional drop.
  • Big Kenny Grant has the talent to be a top 15 pick but sometimes lacks an NFL motor.  I believe he will be a steal late in the 1st round or early on Day 2.  If Loveland is gone, I wouldn't be surprised if Jim goes Big Kenny.
We will do Day 2 Draft Picks on Friday,

Good Luck to all the draft eligible Wolverines!

  • ND is trending for RB Javian Osborne, who did visit for the Spring Game last weekend.
  • Kechaun Bennett a DE jumped into the portal, we wish him good luck!
  • Is Lloyd's grandson going to be the starter at ND next season at QB?

Wolverine Wednesday: 2 Former Wolverines Make Two Different Career Moves

Mel Owens was an All Big Ten LB in Ann Arbor from 1977-1980 and was drafted in the top 10 by the LA Rams. After a 9 year career in the NFL he retired and became a lawyer.   He is now 66 and just became the next Golden Bachelor.  Personally, I can't stand the "Bachelor" shows but good luck to Mel.  Let's not forget former Michigan DB J’Marick Woods is starring in "Farmer Needs a Wife".  That seems like a unique trend for former Michigan defenders.

Now for news for the 2nd former Wolverine.  Jay Feely is running for Congress in Arizona.   So there you go.

  • Every Mock Draft I've seen has Mason Graham #5 to JAX Jags.  Now it seems they might go RB Ashton Jeanty from Boise State.  We will see tomorrow.
  • Many of us like Movies and lately I've been watching the Oscar Nominated Best Films from last year.  My response is WTF?  Anora the film that won Best Picture was a mix of a Cinemax at Night and a bad Netflix film, IMO it had zero business being nominated and it won best picture.  I watched the Brutalist last night and watching it for over 200 minutes was Brutal.  It was very dry and boring.  Acting was strong but the story line dragged.   Substance I watched on a plane and a crazy over the top movie.  I just kept thinking, I sure hope a kid is not watching this over my shoulder as Demi Moore jumps out of a younger body.  Bad choice by me.  Lastly, my pick for Best Picture from all the nominations is Conclave, not only is it interesting its very timely with the Pope passing this weekend.

Michigan Thursday: 2 More Guys Hit The Portal

Before we get started, Hello Friends.  Enjoy the Masters this weekend! The only weekend its ok for  Wolverine fans to wear green.

Michigan had 1 football player and 1 basketball player jump into the portal on Wednesday.

Phat Phat is gone gone - I'm a bit torn on this departure.   The old man in me thinks, this kid is nowhere near developed and he should stay and compete.  The other side says, Michigan has a 5 star guard coming in and a high level point guard.  He is going to be buried on the bench and probably should look for other opportunities.   Either way good luck to him.

I know this is disrespectful to a youngman, but when you hear a Michigan Football Player has entered the draft and your first reaction is, who?  You feel pretty good that player is making the right decision to look for playing time at another school.  Alessandro Lorenzetti is a former 3-star recruit that has been jumping between the offensive and defensive lines and decided to hit the portal.  He clearly has been looking for a path for playing time in Ann Arbor and it just hasn't worked out.   Good luck to Alessandro!

  • Kenny Grant is an interesting prospect for NFL Teams. He is talented and could be a 1st rounder or drop to day 2.  If I'm a GM, I wouldn't sleep on Kenny.

Michigan Friday: PFF's Mock Chargers Draft

One of the common thought process after Jim left Ann Arbor was that he was going to draft a ton of Wolverines.  College PFF predicted that Jim would be taking Kenny Grant in round 1 and Josaiah Stewart in Round 2.

I obviously love these picks but Jim picked the best players available to match their needs in his first draft last year, not matter the team.  They in desperate needs of playmakers on offense and pass rush on defense.   They had a good pass rush last year but just released Joey Bosa and Mack is free agent.

We all know Kenny is a freak but would he take him over Loveland or another offensive prospect in round 1?  Stewart has not reached his ceiling yet but I would estimate him in Round 3.

  • MSU locked up the regular season championship with a win over Iowa last night.  Michigan travels to East Lansing on Sunday.  One team is trending up, the other isn't.  Let's hope the Wolverines can find some momentum in the Big Ten Championship Tournament.
  • RIP Internet Sports personality Andy Isaac, classy move by ESPN putting his passing on Sportscenter.
  • Catch the Lady Wolverines in the Big Ten Tourney this weekend.

Michigan Friday: Another Close One

In full transparency, I was traveling back from Phoenix yesterday and missed the game but read a few summaries.   Michigan Basketball has been living on edge of wins and loses all season.   Last night was another example with Burnett hitting the game winning 3 at the buzzer.

Rutgers is a tough Big Ten team as they have a couple of NBA pro's on the roster but not much else.  Michigan's guard play must improve with Gale and Donaldson.  Both are struggling from the field and Michigan's needs their offense and experience when tournament play begins.  Let's hope they are getting their bad game out of the way now, so they can step up and lead during a Big Ten Tournament and NCAA runs.

I know the book is out on Michigan's big man pick and roll but Michigan is still struggling to be consistent on offense.  If the 3 doesn't fall, Michigan should have an advantage in the low post.   I also would love to see Michigan shoot at a higher percentage from the line as it's losing too many points shooting in the 60's% as a team from the line.

Michigan has a tough road ahead with hosting both Illinois and ranked Maryland in less then a week before traveling to East Lansing to wrap up the season.

  • RIP to Gene Hackman, the star of one of the best sports movies ever - Hoosiers
  • Mason is only going to lift at the combine.  Many are projecting him at #3 to JAX.
  • Kenny Grant has a minor hamstring strain found at his medical in Indy and won't do any on field work. He still wanted to run and is still planning to do so at Michigan's pro day.

Wolverine Wednesday: Loveland Played Hurt

Colston Loveland played his final game against Northwestern.  He scored a TD prior to halftime, and we never saw him again.   He didn't participate in the upset of Ohio State or in win over Alabama in the Outback.   We knew he was injured but we didn't know what or when.

With the NFL Combine starting, Loveland's Doctor released a statement that he injured his shoulder in September.  Per the Doctor it was Type V AC joint dislocation which he played through all year when he was clearly Michigan's best weapon on offense.   He then tried to train in the off season to fix the issue and it was decided on 1/29 to have labral repair surgery to reconstruct his AC Joint capsule on his right shoulder.

His recovery is going well, and he is expected to be ready for Pre-Season Camp with any NFL Team that is lucky enough to draft him.   If any NFL GMs are having doubts on drafting him if the first round, let be 100% clear.  This guy is a gamer, a Michigan Man, that will help your organization win Championships for the next 10-15 years!

Thank you Colston for the grit, toughness, multiple Big Ten Championship, and a National Championship!

Michigan Thursday: News and Notes

  • Looks like ND Center Pat Coogan is expected to take a visit to Ann Arbor this weekend.  Will Rocco be with him?  Reports are he is trending to Nebraska.
  • Chris Ash to ND as DC is done.
  • There is not a lot of buzz around Chip Kelly and the NFL.  He might now stay in Columbus.
  • Looking like Mason Graham might be drafted higher then Will Johnson.  I think the injury and missing games might have hurt Will's draft stock a bit.  A good showing at the combine might get him back in the top 10 range.  If you notice, many mock drafts come out on Wednesday to give the talking heads something to discuss.  Right now, it looks like Michigan could have four 1st rounders.  Graham around #5, Johnson 10-15 range, Grant in the 20's, and Loveland late in round 1.
  • Michigan's sugar daddy Larry Ellison lost Billions in the recent Oracle stock price drop.  We can still count on your NIL $$$ for that 5 star?  Right?  😁
  • OSU loses to Michigan, wins a Peach Bowl Championship, and lost -$38M in revenue in the athletic department.
  • Funny how none of the media outlets picked up the Signgate response.  Only Ohio State fans and Brett Bielema cares.  On a side note, if the New Orleans Saints called Brett today, you think he would take the call?

Michigan Monday: NFL Championship Sunday

We have a Super Bowl repeat from a couple years ago between the Eagles and Chiefs.  Watching the NFL got me thinking about how the networks waste money on 2 things: Pregame Shows and NFL Game Day Booths.

Outside of ESPN's Game Day, I think all other pregame shows are a waste of time.  I will not watch Fox's College Pregame show with Urban Meyer on it.  I always feel like he is going to try to sell me a bridge in Florida.  NFL pregame shows fall into a similar bucket for me.

Now let's talk about the guys in the booth.  I will ask you a question, are NFL fans watching the games because of Romo and Brady or for the game?

We all love Brady and he is learning this job.  He got better as the season went on.

Romo was great coming out of Dallas but now sounds like a elementary school child watching a football game.  Neither Brady nor Romo deserve the money they are getting to call games.

ESPN struggled to find a good booth for Monday Night Football after Gruden left and decided to pay Aikman and Buck over $30M a year for two guys working 17-18 days a year.

Now don't get me wrong, I want competent people in the booth but there has to be a different choice then paying former Dallas QB's $16M+ a year.

I will rest my case with the popular Red Zone.  Which comes with no commercials and very small windows for the announcers.  Which seems like the perfect amount.

With ESPN laying off employees almost every quarter, maybe they should look at some of these high price talent they are paying to call games.

Ok, that was my "get off my lawn" post for January! 😀

  • Jeff Persi transfers to Pitt.   Good luck to Jeff in the steel town.
  • Ohio State is expected to lose both coordinators: DC Jim Knowles leaves for Penn State after turning down Oklahoma.  Chip Kelly is expected to leave for an NFL OC gig.  There are 3 teams interested in him.  Not surprised by Chip who will chase money but the Jim Knowles one is very interesting and a small glimpse of what its like coaching in Columbus when you win a National Championship but lose to Michigan.  Ryan Day said it took him weeks to leave his house (outside of work) after losing to Michigan.   Neither Coordinator was at OSU's Peach Bowl Championship Celebration.
  • Michigan Basketball after getting run out of West Lafayette, hosts Penn State tonight in an early tip on a Monday Night.
  • Who is PFF's Highest Rated DT for the 2024 Season?  Yes, its Mason Graham
  • Michigan thought they had their 2026 QB locked up when Brady Hart committed.  Brady then changes to a 2025 recruit and then decommits when Bryce committed.  Another QB Michigan was interested in 2026 was/is 2026 Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star QB Brady Smigiel.  This Brady was committed to FSU, until this weekend. Michigan's new OC Chip recruited Smigiel at
UNC, I expect Michigan to be a big factor in his recruitment moving foward. Yes, Please!

Michigan Friday: Business Trip

The Wolverines landed in Florida on Thursday as they will take on Alabama again on Tuesday afternoon.  No, it's not the Rose Bowl or even the college playoffs, it's the ReliaQuest Bowl or the former Outback Bowl.  You know already know that I think Bowl Games are glorified scrimmages, but more football is better than less football.

Another Wolverine on Thursday made a business decision and that was big Kenny Grant.  Not highly rated coming out of high school, Kenny with defensive line neighbor Mason "were gifts from the football gods".  Harbaugh saw it early and the nation saw it quickly after.

There were small rumors that Kenny might be thinking about coming back for one more year but when the 1st round comes calling, you have to answer that call!   Best of luck Kenny and thank you for coming to Ann Arbor and helping win a National Championship!

  • I turned on the bad NFL game, how did Rutgers lose that game?
  • You also know what I think about Wink, but he did come through against Ohio State, so I don't want to run him out of town.  If he did leave for the NFL, I had one candidate in mind ,former Purdue head coach Ryan Walters who was a great DC at Illinois.    Jedd is a smart man and he will be hiring Ryan at UW.
  • Wisconsin QB Braedyn Locke is transferring to Arizona
  • Michigan Freshman QB Jaydn Davis does not plan on transferring with the arrival of Bryce Underwood.
  • UNLV Portal CB Tony Grimes is looking to schedule a visit to Ann Arbor
  • Arizona Portal CB Emmanuel Karnley is heading to Miami

Michigan Monday: CFP First Round was a Miss

I had high hopes for football this weekend.  Friday night, all day on Saturday, and there was even 2 NFL games on.  Could this be the best football weekend of the year?  It didn't turn out that way.

All the CFP First Round games were bad and I do have some thoughts on why.

1. Is homefield too much of an advantage?  These teams didn't do anything to deserve homefield, except be picked higher by the committee.  The teams with a Bye have to play at a neutral field.

2. The cold (outside of the Texas game) was a big factor.

3. The students are already on break.  Maybe play these games indoors in the region so its better football and a better fan experience.

I know college football coaches are not stupid and have a ton of football knowledge.  I just don't understand what I was watching on Friday and Saturday.  Case in point:

-Indiana's head coach talks shit on a pre-game show and then his team doesn't execute against an ND defense that gave up a ton of points to USC's back-up QB in their last game.   Tell me again why you were trying to establish the run?

-James Franklin tried to keep SMU in the game and the Mustangs had some of the worst QB play I've ever seen.   That game was hard to watch as it was soo bad.

-Tennessee had a script and a game plan on how to beat the wounded Buckeyes.  They completely ignored it and left their corners on an island against the best freshman WR we have seen in a long time.  What in the world were they doing?  I know they didn't have Graham or Grant but that game plan was pure stupidity.   Anyone think that facemask penalty on OSU's first drive changed the game completely?

Anyone trust that Warde can fix this?  Sorry, stupid question.

  • Michigan DE Stewart has declared for the NFL Draft congratulations and best of luck!
  • Michigan Basketball dominated Purdue Ft. Wayne and got their 9th win of the season.
  • Michigan had lots of important transfer prospects on campus this weekend including a top ranked OT, Bama transfer RB, and 2 QB's.
  • Kris Jenkins had 2 sacks on Sunday, Haskins a TD on Thursday, and Jourdan Lewis had a nice pick on Sunday night.
  • Michigan is welcoming back OL analyst Juan Castillo who was UCLA's OL coach last year.  Juan was at Michigan in the same role back in 2018 for Jim.

Michigan Monday: The Cole Cabana Conundrum

Cole played his high school football right outside of Ann Arbor in Dexter.  He was rated a 3/4 star RB depending on the service in the 2023 recruiting class.   His freshman year at Michigan only saw him get into one game but winning a National Championship and seeing how Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards went to work everyday must have been a great learning experience.

"Obviously, the standard is set. That's how I like to look at it. I knew coming to a school like this, there's gonna be dudes, obviously. Sometimes you gotta wait your turn and I've been blessed to be in a position where I can learn from the best: My coaches, Blake, Dono, some of the best to do it. So I'm in a great position," he told The Michigan Insider.

The rumor was that Cole was injured most of his freshman year.  As many expected him to see some action his freshman year.   Then fans were excited to see him play in the 2024 Spring Game but injuries again popped up with a hamstring and a knee injury.  Whether it was depth chart, injuries, or something else.  Cole did not post any stats in the 2024 season after getting 2 carries for 6 yards in 2023.

Michigan needed speed and playmakers this season, so something was amiss with Cole not seeing the field.   When you see opportunity and your name is not called, that is a sure fire recipe for entry into the transfer portal, which he did last week.

Yesterday, in what was expected to be his only visit he picked the Minnesota Golden Gophers.   For at least next season Cole will be rowing the boat with PJ Fleck, who I assume recruited him out of Dexter.   We wish Cole all the best and feel badly it didn't work out for him in Ann Arbor.

  • Michigan finally landed Indiana transfer WR Donoven McCulley.  This transfer was rumored a year ago and finally happened this weekend.   Donoven is 6'5 and the big WR Michigan has been looking for a while.  In 2023 he caught 48 balls for 644 yards and even threw a TD pass against the Wolverines.
  • Donovan Edwards confirmed he is not playing in the Bowl Game.  Which comes as no surprise.
  • Myles Hinton declared for the NFL
  • Loveland of course is also going to the Draft.
  • Edge's TJ Guy and Derrick Moore are expected back next season.
  • Alex Orji also entered the transfer portal.  If I could give him one piece of advice.  Work with your new team on a new position.  Your play in the OSU game was huge in Michigan getting the win.  I know this year was tough on you and you showed a lot of class in way you handled it.  A MAC team should give Orji a shot.
  • It finally happened, Marshall had to back out of its bowl game because they lost too many players to the portal.  If Bowl Games were a stock, it would have a huge SELL rating.
  • OSU backup QB who should be getting ready for a playoff game decided to enter the portal instead.
  • Maryland transfer QB Billy Edwards Jr. is expected to visit Ann Arbor today after being in Madison this weekend. 👀  Update: Well, that changed quickly.  Whether it was money, fit, or a 5-star freshman on the roster.  Billy is now predicted to go to Wisconsin and will not be visiting Ann Arbor.  Wisconsin just picked up the SDSU QB Danny O'Neil and reports are now that Billy is visiting Virginia today.  The portal is a wild place folks!
  • In related news, Miller Moss picked Louisville.
  • With Franz injured Mo had a career night against the Knicks.  He went for 32.

Michigan Thursday: A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity

Have you ever been to Wrigley to watch a Cubs game?  How about a Michigan Football game?  The Big Ten released the Michigan Football Schedule on Wednesday and Michigan will play Northwestern at Wrigley as their new stadium continues to be built.  I expect this is going to be a hot ticket.

Not a bad schedule, no back to back home games is interesting: No Oregon, No Penn State, No Indiana, No Little Brown Jug game.   Ohio State opens against Texas.

  • What a strange day in coaching hires. UNC hires Belichick and WVU re-hires RR.  Both can be good for the programs or blow up quickly.
  • Michigan has offered Transfer Portal target Miami of Ohio WR Reggie Virgil.
  • Michigan has offered transfer portal target Tulsa WR Joseph Williams, who was the AAC Freshman of the Year.
  • Will Johnson declared for the NFL Draft.  Congrats Will and thank you again for picking Michigan.
  • Former Wolverine WR Andrel Anthony is back in the transfer portal after 2 years of injuries at Oklahoma.
  • Reports are Brian Hartline interviewed for the West Virginia job.

Michigan Tuesday: News and Notes

  • Mason Graham is heading to the NFL Draft.  He has been great as a Wolverine, will be remembered as a Champion and one of the best recruits of the Harbaugh era.  Legend status activated!  Good Luck Big Man!

  • Michigan Basketball plays Arkansas tonight in the Jimmy V Classic
  • Michigan Basketball now ranked #14!
  • Former Wisconsin and Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke is on the move again.
  • Herbie thinks Ohio State would play better on the road after Michigan upset them in Horseshoe.  That the OSU fans might turn on Ryan Day if they get off to a slow start against Tennessee.
  • GA WR Nitro Tuggle in the portal, he had some interest in Michigan out of high school.
  • Former Michigan RB Cole Cabana is expected to visit Minnesota.
  • IU vs. ND makes me smile.  It still should be played in Dayton.
  • UK DL Transfer Keeshawn Silver has a top 4 of Michigan, Miami, Florida, and USC
