Breaking News: It's Over as Jimmy Goes to the Chargers

We got some bad information today that Jimmy was back in Ann Arbor.  He was not, he was still in LA trying to work out a contract.  He did just that about an hour ago and let Michigan know.

The expectation is Sherrone will be named head coach soon.  It's a good decision but Michigan doesn't have any other options.  The biggest question now remains if Jesse Minter will follow Jimmy to LA or stay at Michigan.  My expectation is he will head West to join Harbaugh and become the Chargers DC.

Yes, I have high regard for Sherrone but he is not Harbaugh.   He is going to have his hands full and inherit a pretty big problem if Jesse bolts to LA.

I appreciate coach Harbaugh for everything he has done to bring back the Maize and Blue and wish him good luck.   Still feel a little sick to my stomach.

Michigan Thursday & Friday: Say It Ain't So Joe?

Mlive

This one wasn't hard to predict.  Joe Milton is graduating from Michigan in 3 years and will be a rare graduate transfer with 3 years to play.

I like Joe but we have seen this story way too many times.   The kid is an amazing athlete and dominates high school but struggles in big time college football.   Was he a superstar in practice but not on Saturday's?  He was enough of a star for Dylan to transfer.   He also could see the writing on the wall with how Cade played in his place and JJ coming in with 5 stars on his back.  This is a probably the right decision for him and Joe should be congratulated for graduating in 3 years.   My only advice would have been to wait until after Spring Ball, but leaving now could allow him to join a new team for Spring Practice (but I'm guessing he needs to stay enrolled in Ann Arbor to graduate early).

This does leave some depth issues at the QB spot and maybe Michigan goes shopping in the transfer portal for another QB.  Even though most QB's are looking to start, not backup when they jump into the portal.

Either way, I wish him good luck and hope he finds a new home somewhere soon.   I would love to see him stay in the Harbaugh coaching tree with its new coach Ed Warinner at FAU.

Breaking News: We Got A Starting QB & Grant Newsome Calls It A Career

Jimmy told an alumni group at Weber's this morning that Shea Patterson will start against Notre Dame.  In other news, water is wet and Rashan Gary is strong.

In sad news, Grant Newsome who almost lost his leg a couple season's ago when he got cut by a Wisconsin player, has called it a career.

Grant will be great in whatever he decides to do next. Good luck big man!

Breaking News: Michigan Looking Into Players Selling Team Issued Jordans

Air Jordan 5 Retro - 645668 636
stadium goods
As I mentioned here on Tuesday, the sneaker re-sale market is a big business and for Michigan to have avoided the pitfalls of a player re-selling his Jordan's has been a minor miracle.   That quickly changed today as news broke that Michigan is investigating the below report from ESPN.

It seems the shop that bought the North Carolina Players shoes, also has some Michigan shoes in stock.  Like I mentioned on Tuesday, Stadium Goods has a pair of Michigan Jordan's for sale for $6500.

A source told ESPN that the retailer told UNC it had bought shoes from other schools, including Michigan, Marquette and California. Officials from all three schools acknowledged, through athletic department spokesmen, that they were contacted by North Carolina and are in the process of investigating the claims.

This could be something or nothing.  Jordan provides "friends and families" shoes to many athletes and celebrities, so it doesn't mean that a player sold their pair.   Also a former player could have sold his shoes.

Let's hope this is nothing and the current Wolverines did the right thing.

Friday Night Commit: Welcomes Mustapha Muhammad

Earlier tonight, Mustapha Muhammad committed to the Wolverines.  MM is from Missouri City, Texas and plays at Ridge Point High School.  He is a 4 star commit to all the services and is 6'4 and 235 pounds.   He joins Michigan's 2018 class!

MM has favored the Wolverines since this summer and I believe he committed to the coaches prior to the IU game last weekend.   MM is one of the top 15 players in Texas and can see how the Wolverines leverage the TE in Jimmy's offense.

MM is an Under Armour All American and will play in the game in Orlando.  His offer list is a nice one with the likes of:  Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Texas, TX AM, ND, USC, UCLA, Alabama, Miami, Wisconsin and many more.

This is Michigan's 15 commit for the 2018 and second TE with Luke Schoonmaker who is one of the finalist for the last spots in the UA game as well.   This is the third commit from Texas with the Green Brothers.

Congrats and Welcome Mustapha!

Below are his JR. highlights

Breaking News: Reports Are That Tarik Black Has A Broken Foot

Many saw Tarik Black take a ride on the cart to the locker room after the game.   Social Media is a buzz and a trusted Michigan insider is saying that Black has broken his foot and will be out for two months but probably the rest of the season.

This is another blow to a struggling Michigan offense.  Michigan may look to pull the redshirt off Oliver Martin or Nico Collins.  Let's hope there is better news about Ty Isaac.

Please note, this injury hasn't been officially confirmed by Michigan.  The team usually doesn't confirm any player injuries unless they are serious like Grant Newsome's.

Breaking News: Michigan Lands a 4 Star Corner

Michigan landed a 4 star corner this afternoon when Myles "Spider" Sims out of Georgia committed to the Wolverines.   Scout and Rivals are the highest on Myles,  Rivals has him as the 51st player in the country and Scout has him as the 80th.

Myles visited Ann Arbor in early March with his parents and that trip seemed to seal the deal.  Myles offer list included the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, USC and many more.

Myles was born in the Great Lakes State and moved down south when he was 6 years old.   He is 6'3 and 175 pounds.

Sims joins Ekiyor, Reese and Hutchinson as members of the 2018 recruiting class.

This is a big get for the Wolverines and reportedly their top prospect at corner.

Michigan Thursday: Drake Johnson Gets Injured in the Track and Field Building

maizeandgoblue.com
In an un-believable report it seems that Drake Johnson got hit by a forklift in the Track and Field building.   Sam Webb has confirmed that he was hurt and the details are coming in from internet, which of course are just rumors.  The internet is saying he was stretching with headphones on and the forklift was carrying a load.  The driver could not see Drake and ran in to him.  The extent of his injuries are not known.

I hope he is doing well as it sounds like he is in the hospital.   I'm sure we will get more details as they come available.

Jimmy at the Migos concert, I guess he was also on stage.

Breaking News: Michigan Adds Another 2017 RB!

Michigan has added another RB to it's 2017 class with the commitment this morning of AJ Dillon from Groton, MA.

AJ Dillon is a 4 star RB to Rivals and is 6'0 foot and 228 pounds as a junior.  His offer list is impressive one as it includes:  BC, Florida State, Iowa, Miss St, Nebraska, ND, Syracuse, Virginia, VTech and Wisconsin.  Expect to see him in the De'Veon Smith role in A2.

Per 24/7:

“All of the schools I have visited have a lot to offer from an amazing staff to amazing player to just being amazing schools themselves,” Dillon told 247Sports. “However after my visits, my family and I believe that Michigan is the best place for me to continue as a student athlete.

“After my Michigan visit, I felt like my life after football would be set up with the connections and education I would get there. To tie in with that, you add the aspect of world-class facilities and an amazing football program filled with great players and a great staff. I also felt like the city of Ann Arbor would be somewhere I could call home. I just stepped on campus and felt comfortable.”

“The coaches have told me they plan to use me as a running back,” he stated. “They think I’m an every down back there. When I told them I committed they were very excited. Coach Harbaugh let out an excited scream when I told them!”

Rivals ranks AJ as the 16th best RB and #1 Player in Mass.

As a junior, Dillon rushed for 1,886 yards on 10.1 yards per carry, scoring 26 touchdowns in just nine games. His team was the Independent School League and New England Prep champions, and he was a first-team selection in both leagues (in addition to being co-MVP of each).

This is Michigan's second RB (Kurt Taylor) in the class and it's 7th commit.

Welcome to Michigan AJ!

Breaking News: It's Starting - Player Transfers

Ok, this clearly now needs it's own post as everybody seems to be leaking they are leaving the program today.

1st announcement:
Ross Taylor-Douglas will leave the Michigan program as a graduate transfer and will have two years of eligibility left.   Ross was a man without a position as he jumped from CB to RB and never broke the lineup at either position.   I wish him well at his next stop.   BTW:  Get used to these updates as we will probably see at least 10 more.

2nd announcement:
It seems Dennis Norfleet has re-enrolled at Michigan and will graduate this spring.   That is great news for him!  For those that are wondering, he is out of eligibility and will take a shot at the NFL.

3rd announcement today:
As expected CB Terry Richardson will be looking for a graduate transfer opportunity.   Even though he was a Cass Tech highly rated corner, he never really saw any playing time at Michigan.  Good Luck to him!

Time Change Saturday

Credible people are saying on twitter that the Michigan - Maryland game is being moved to noon from 8:00 PM due to the weather.   This is not official yet, but expect that announcement soon.

Weather channel for Saturday in College Park has a high of 60 degrees and a 50% chance of rain, with strong winds in the afternoon.

It's official:

ANN ARBOR, Mich. –  The University of Michigan's football game at the University of Maryland on Saturday (Oct. 3) has been moved to a noon EDT kickoff from its previously scheduled 8 p.m. start, the Big Ten Conference announced.

The Big Ten has been in counsel with Maryland and Michigan throughout the week on the course of Hurricane Joaquin and its possible effects on Saturday's game. The three entities agreed that moving the game time was the appropriate decision.

"The weather experts are still dealing with uncertain probabilities for the course of Hurricane Joaquin," said Jim Hackett, interim Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. "Thus we remain vigilant on developments and will err on the side of safety for all participants and fans."

Michigan (3-1), ranked 22nd in the latest Associated Press top-25 poll, and Maryland (2-2) will open their Big Ten schedules at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in College Park, Maryland. The game will be aired live on BTN and BTN2Go. Please check local listings for complete broadcast information.

Breaking News: 4 Star WR Ahmir Mitchell Commits To Michigan

Michigan lands another WR for the 2016 class in 4 star WR Ahmir Mitchell from NJ.   There have been rumors that Ahmir has been a silent commit for sometime now.   He picked the Wolverines just a few minutes ago over Ohio State.

To Rivals Ahmir is the #102 player in the country and 19th ranked WR.  He had offers from the likes of OSU, Alabama, FSU, MSU, VA Tech, Penn State, ND and many more.   He is a 6'3 and 203 pounds going into his senior year season.

This is the 23rd commitment to the 2016 class and probably the last WR.   Michigan has been recruiting instate WR Donnie Corley pretty hard and it will be interesting to see if they want to take another WR in this class.   I doubt this commitment was a surprise to the coaches, so I expect they would still take Corley as well.

Welcome Ahmir!

Breaking News: Michigan Picks Nike and Jumpman for Basketball

The final verdict on Wolverine Shoe Wars are in:  Michigan picks Nike.

All sports will wear the Nike Brand but the basketball teams will sport the very popular Jordan/Jumpman brand.   Schools like North Carolina, Georgetown and Marquette also wear the Jumpman logo for basketball.   If your wondering:  Yes, it will help recruiting as most kids want to wear Nike and the now the Jordan brand.   The deal will run from August 2016 -2027.

No financials were released but the rumor is Michigan left a few dollars on the table from Adidas to go back to Nike.  It is expected this is Nike's largest University deal.

Jim Hackett lands Jimmy and Nike within 6-7 months and is now expected to turn the job over in the coming months.   This might be the best run an AD has ever had!   #Hackett Job!

The Hits Keep Coming: Blake Countness To Transfer

ESPN

Blake has graduated and decided not to spend his 5th year as a Wolverine.   Wayne Lyons is now on campus and Blake struggled last year as Michigan moved to a more of a man press coverage model.    That is a hit to a secondary that was set up to be special with Lyons, The Count, J. Lewis and of course Peppers.

I guess Blake saw himself as the odd man out and will look to play his 5th year somewhere else. I'm sort of sad after hearing this news, I was always high on The Count and wanted to see him play in what could be a "special defense" next year.   He deserves to win.   Good Luck Blake!

Breaking News: Instate RB Matt Falcon Commits To Michigan

Michigan has landed it's second RB this week as 4 star RB Matt Falcon just committed to Michigan.  Matt is 6'1 and 200 pounds.

Matt is a 4 star RB to Rivals, Scouts and 24/7.  Rivals has him the #7 player in the state and # 13 RB nationally. To Scouts he is the #149 player in the nation.  Matt is known as a bigger RB with speed that will learn from the top RB with size (in Michigan history) and speed in Ty Wheatley his new RB coach.

Michigan now is all set at RB for 2016 class and Falcon who had Tennessee, Oregon, Arkansas and Arizona State equally high on his list, must of felt a bit of pressure to commit to the Wolverines after King Davis committed earlier this week.   His other big offers were from OSU, WVU, Nebraska, UCLA, Iowa, Wake and Vandy.

The early Spring Game seems to be really paying off for the Wolverines as they continue to pick up commits less then a week after the game.   Robert Washington a 4 star NC RB is announcing his decision on the 25th of this month.   He had Michigan in his final group with Bama, Syracuse, NC and TCU.   I expect him to remove the Wolverines from his final group now.

Breaking News: Brandon to Resign at 1:30 Today

New job?
Well folks, there could be some news on the horizon.   The rumor mill and now the media is starting to confirm there is an expected 1:30 press conference regarding Michigan's Athletic Director.

Angelique is saying it's at 1:30.  Message boards are buzzing, I will update when I get more.

The latest is David Brandon is expected to resign in a matter of hours.   That he wasn't making it past the bye week anyway.  The nasty response via email was the final straw.

ESPN is reporting he is resigning this afternoon.

Mgoblue.com has not announced a Press Conference or link yet.  Will share when I find it.

Fox 2 Detroit is covering it:  http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/story/27175341/espn-michigan-athletic-director-dave-brandon-to-resign

New Update:  James Hackett, who played for Bo and was CEO at Steelcase, will be the interim AD.

Everything reported is correct!  Brandon is out on Halloween.  He spoke President Mark Schlissel about it on Wednesday.  The search for the new AD will start immediately.

Michigan Friday: Mitch Goes To NBA and Other Bad Things

I love being a Michigan fan but there are days, weeks, and moments it's really to hard hang in there.  Today is another one of those days.

Mitch McGary is going to the NBA.   The reason is not because he is ready or he is healed from his back injury, it's because he has been suspended from the NCAA for one year for testing positive for marijuana.

One night in mid-March, with the NCAA tournament about to begin without him, McGary was hanging out with a group of friends at Michigan. He had a few drinks. Someone offered some marijuana – a common occurrence, he said, on campus.

"I always turned it down," McGary told Yahoo Sports. "But that night I didn't."

Mitch didn't fail a U of M drug test he failed a random test during the NCAA Tournament, which requires a year long suspension.   Talk about making a decision for you.

"It's just with the NCAA and their strict rules, they don't show any mercy," McGary said. "They take their things seriously."

"[That's why] this was a surprise," Beilein told Yahoo Sports on Thursday evening. "This is not Mitch McGary. Not the one I know

If Mitch had failed a U of M test he would have been suspended for probably 3 games.   He failed an NCAA test and that requires him to sit out a full year.   (which they just changed to a half season)

So he is off the NBA, a kid with a back problem and now a year long suspension for testing positive for a recreational drug.    I'm really at a loss for words.   This seems like lose - lose - lose (Mitch - NBA - U of M) for everyone involved.

NCAA having a year long ban, but wait they just made it a half a year for a drug that is completely legal in two states and medically legal in many more, is crazy.    I'm not saying Mitch, should of done it but the crime doesn't seem to fit the punishment (a year or a 1/2 a year).

Next year is now a complete mess down low, with nothing but freshman.   Jon Horford really must have not like Coach Beilein's offense.  I don't see any reason why he should have transferred, he could have played 40 minutes a game as a 5th year senior.

Reason Why Graham Glasgow Got Suspended

Per ESPN:

Suspended Michigan center Graham Glasgow will be arraigned on a drunk-driving charge May 19 in Ann Arbor, according to court records.

Glasgow allegedly operated a vehicle while intoxicated on March 15, court records say. On March 20, Michigan coach Brady Hoke announced that Glasgow had been suspended for part of spring practice and for the Wolverines' opener against Appalachian State because of a violation of team rules. Glasgow returned to the team later in spring practice.

The news just keeps coming for Michigan's offensive line.
