Update 11:15 Yes he did!
Ty Isaac @TyIsaac Follow
I will be attending the University of Michigan this year
Jeremy Fowler CBS Sports: Michigan expects to land USC transfer running back Ty Isaac, who according to a source is working through the admissions process with the school and committed some time after his visit this week.
Perhaps anything can happen but Isaac has given the Wolverines strong indications that he'll be attending school in Ann Arbor, according to the source.
Let's first try to de-code that message:
- Transferring to Michigan is never an easy thing. With Michigan's difficult admission policies, you never know what might happen. We obviously don't know what type of classes Ty took at USC and how he did in those classes. With that said, Ty has a much better chance of being approved coming from a school like USC vs. Iowa CC.
- Starting the admission process does not guarantee a full commitment or that he is fully sold on Michigan. Many kids even during the recruiting process (non-transfers) will start the admission process to a number of schools to get it out of the way.
So things are looking good, I would feel more comfortable if we got some indication from the Isaac's camp that Michigan is his school of choice. At this point, the only thing we have is Sam Webb talking with his mom yesterday and her saying that he hadn't picked a school yet.
The other thing that was cleared up was Ty's mother medical condition. She has an inner ear problem that will not allow her to fly. If I remember correctly, I think Ty was the player that regularly visited Ann Arbor via train. It's also only a 4 hour drive from their home.
This could be good news for applying for the NCAA waiver, which usually has a 100 mile radius clause. Michigan might be approved due the driving distance and maybe a train trip vs. flying to LA. Either way Ty will have to pick a school before the waiver is granted anyway.
If you have forgotten, Ty was a 5 star RB in the 2013 class, in his freshman year he ran for 236 yards in 40 attempts as a freshman. That is a almost a 6 yard per carry average and he also scored two touchdowns. Many had thought Ty could play RB or WR coming out high school.
Yes, Please!
- More good news? Allen Trieu of Scouts is reporting that Alex Malzone has cleared all the hurdles to graduate early and will enroll at Michigan in January. Maybe Alex and Ty were at the admission office together? :-)

It's good to win a recruiting battle once in a while..... even if it's a season later.
Nice get! If he doesn't get a waiver to play immediately, does he lose a year of eligibility? If not, I kind of hope he sits a year so he's behind Green and Smith.
@ Joe... He won't lose a year, just has to sit out a year. He will still have three years of eligibility, just will have to wait a year to play... Basically red shirting a year. I agree 100%, that makes losing Harris' commit and Weber leaning away, not much of an issue. This kid has proven he can play Div 1.
