4 Star LB Darrin Kirkland Jr. visited Ann Arbor this weekend with zero intention of committing to the Wolverines. He had been getting a ton of interest nationally from big programs like Texas, Oklahoma and Oregon who all had recently offered. Pile those offers on the total of 26 other offers that he had, he knew his decision in August was going to be a difficult one. Darrin wanted to get his recruiting process over before his senior year started so he could focus on his final year of high school football and graduating in December.
Then he visited Ann Arbor again this weekend and that entire process went out the window:
Just getting onto campus I had that gut feeling. I just felt it when I looked at the Block M on the stadium. I knew I could not say no to this place.
(Laughs) I called Coach Hoke but he was in church so him and his wife ran out of church and I told him that I’m committing. His wife actually screamed out loud in church about it. (Laughs) It was pretty crazy!
This is great news for the 2015 class as they only have 5 spots left for the class (which is likely to increase).
The not so great news from the weekend is that
- Commit Shaun Crawford is expected to test the Coach Hoke's visit policy as he seems to be setting up visits to ND, Ohio State and Miami. So it sounds like he might be trying to keep his commitment while taking visits. Which means Michigan will start recruiting other DB's which at this point is not a position of need.
Michigan needs in the 2015 class are now mostly on offense with needs at WR, TE, RB and OL. The Defense is looking for a DE and an outside LB.
