Michigan Tuesday: Pete Rose Wishes He Had an NCAA

Everyone knows that Pete Rose was found to have placed bets on the Cincinnati Reds when he was a player.  He was banned from the game forever.  Texas Tech who signed former IU and Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby who was found to have made many bets on IU while playing there.  Also a strange coincidence of both happening in Cincinnati.

The NCAA of course suspended him and sent him to the moon.  Then Texas Texas went out and found a friendly judge and I'm pretty sure the NCAA has never won an court battle and that judge gave an injunction that Brendan can play next season.

From ESPN: Texas Tech star Brendan Sorsby has been granted a temporary injunction against the NCAA that could clear the way for him to play for the Red Raiders in 2026, even after the transfer quarterback was declared ineligible for wagering on college sports.

A Texas judge granted Sorsby a preliminary injunction Monday that prevents the NCAA from punishing him for violating its rules on sports gambling.

Judge Ken Curry ruled that Sorsby's attorneys demonstrated he will suffer a "probable, imminent and irreparable injury" if he's unable to play for the Red Raiders in 2026 and enjoined the NCAA from prohibiting Sorsby from practicing or playing this fall.

I know Michigan Football's NCAA stuff is behind us and we don't need to bring it up, but this is why I wanted U of M to challenge everything in court.  The NCAA never wins and a court just let maybe one of the worst thing to happen in sports, slide.   Betting on a game your playing in questions the credibility of the sport.

I usually side with the player, like that former Ferris State QB playing at Ole Miss.  This time its a no brainer that Sorsby has done something that is not forgivable and he needs to be punished and suspended.

The NCAA has no power and its 100% clear.  Time for a new system.

  • Rez has reportedly worked out for the Chicago Bulls, OKC Thunder, and the New York Knicks.
