Game 1: WMU 7:30
Game 2: Oklahoma Noon
Game 3: UTEP 3:30
I know early in the season there is a need for primetime games and a very small inventory of compelling match-ups. Still why Michigan continues to open a season at night against a MAC opponent just boggles my mind. If I was in charge of everything, I would have Game 1 at noon, Game 2 in Primetime, and Game 3 at noon.
The only reason Game 2 is at noon, is because Fox owns the 12:00 kicks for the Big Time for their premier game of the week. Game 1 is a primetime because the Networks know Michigan playing anyone draws a large audience and Game 3 must be a CBS game who owns that time slot for the Big Ten.
I still prefer the Bo quote: “We used to tell the TV stations that we’re going to tee the ball up at one o’clock. If you want to come down and take your little pictures, feel free.”
- Freshman DT Alister Vallejo has made it to Ann Arbor to start his career as a Wolverine!
- Freshman TE Mason Bonner has made it to Ann Arbor to start his career as a Wolverine!
- In-state EDGE Myles Smith will announce his commitment this afternoon
- MSU Guard Jeremy Fears, feared he wouldn't be drafted high enough and is heading back to East Lansing to kick it for another year.
- Cal commit edge Troy Bowens will visit A2 on 6-19

Bob, to put it bluntly TV networks don’t shell out a billion dollars for Big Ten broadcast rights for nothing. They want people watching big names at prime times to get advertising revenue so they can pay the broadcast fee and make a profit. Money rules the day so it’s quite naive to state we’re here so you can show up if you want. You don’t get something for nothing in life. Sure you can bitch and moan about it in an old guy get off my lawn moment but it doesn’t change reality. Universities, fans, and now players want the money funneled into the program to compete at a high level you have to sacrifice the times to play the game. It’s so predictable that when I saw the TV time released I knew you would complain about it. So yeah, unfortunately it interferes with the early bird special and sleep time. Suck it up because you’re wasting your breath bemoaning it time after time.
I agree with Bob. If someone likes your product they'll show up no matter what / when it is. I wish Michigan had the mentality of the Masters tournament. We're going to do what we want to do and if you don't like it f*** off. Try it, they'll show up...
Perhaps but we’re apart of the Big Ten conference in a media rights agreement. Which means Michigan doesn’t solely control its rights. Sure we could go independent Notte Dame route but due to the combining of rights with TV networks Purdue makes more than them with inferior product. Tradeoffs for both and you have to give up something for it. Otherwise you’re not living in reality and end product will not have the financing to compete with big boys year in and year out.
Additionally, while I love the masters, it’s not a fair comparison. A once a year event with the best competition and build up vs a twelve game season with varying degrees of competition levels. You won’t make nearly as much vs western Michigan vs Oklahoma and payouts from tv networks will be commensurate with the draw. That would severely cutback on what a network would pay vs a once year Masters. It’s a nice idea we have that much control but the reality and forecasted money into program would suffer.
I didn't say the Masters event, I said the Masters mentality.
