Michigan Thursday: Random Thoughts

  • Alabama Basketball is bringing in a guy that has signed multiple Pro contracts?  We are really taking college athletics to professional levels now.  I also believed Michigan should've fought harder in court against the NCAA as it seems they have little to no standing in any matter.
  • The Taylor Tatum move to safety is an interesting one.  When your the highest rated RB coming out of HS and you change positions, there must be a very good reason to do so.  Maybe RB wasn't for him?  He also will play baseball in Ann Arbor probably in 2027.   Wolverine fans love when guys are successful making a position switch! Got Mikey to the NFL!
  • How are players from Duke entering the transfer portal now?  Isn't it closed?  I understand if your team was in the CFP or made a head coaching change but Duke was neither.
  • I still think Michigan could use another LB from the portal.  Did I forget to post that NDSU LB Nathaniel Staehling Committed to Michigan?
  • The new Michigan staff is on the road recruiting 2027 and beyond.
  • This new staff is opening new doors out west, but I hope they don't forget about the midwest and Florida, when recruiting talent to Ann Arbor.  We do not want Utah East, we want Michigan supercharged with new recruits and a new staff.   If I was a Penn State fan, I would be worried that their program is becoming Iowa State.
  • There are reports that Davis Warren is expected to be Stanford's starter next season.  I love Davis, the guy is tough as nails, but I would make sure he is 100% healthy and can make the throws Andrew Luck needs him to make.
  • Did the move of Tatum to Safety prompt Kuzdzal to come back?
  • Trey Burke deserves his night on Friday.  It was a clean block!
  • SF will investigate if the power plant next to the stadium is causing all the injuries.  Quick question, would you buy a house next to a power plant?  I sure wouldn't

Trey Burke never should have his jersey retired playing for two season.....I know he made the shot but jersey retiring is way to much.....how low can the standard go....?

I can understand what the new Michigan football staff are likely doing when it comes to recruiting. Consider that they already have deep ties into the west coast areas that they've understandably developed over the years. The high school coaching staff knows them and trusts them and is still willing to send them their kids, because they've developed them in the past and sent them to the pros.

Meanwhile back here at the ranch, the new staff have to develop relationships with high schools and their players on this side of the universe. They know Michigan but they don't know the staff yet and they don't know how their kids will be treated. Sometimes, trust is earned. So, the new Michigan staff may need another year or two before they can pull in the non-western prospects. However, the Michigan staff STILL needs to bring in talent and develop them and so they bring in the west coasters that they know, trust and are willing to come. The new staff are still reaching out to the locals and trying to recruit them, but time will tell if they'll have an immediate impact on their local recruiting efforts. I'm thinking that we will see more of a recruiting up tick for the players in our hemisphere as the years go on. IMHO!!!

Regarding Michigan fighting the NCAA more, I say let sleeping dogs lye. Enough. We only had to pay a fine, albeit a large one, and I couldn't stand the media coverage constantly saying we cheated, when evidence said otherwise. No games forfeited, no bowl ban, and still Champions.

Davis Warren starting will be must see TV. I always thought the guy had an arm, and he's obviously bright enough to be able to get into Stanford and Michigan, which leaves one variable at play- the Sherrone Effect. Did ANYONE actually improve under Sherrone's watch? I think he was too busy swiping left on Tinder to waste his time actually coaching up his players.

We could have used another quality LB, yes, but if they're not available, you take the best you can get and call it a day. Why take another LB if they are only subpar? I think we'll be fine.

I've been following the recent recruitment of local 5* Harper Woods WR Dakota Gurrant. Whitt and his assistants have visited him already and told him he is a priority. I think Gurrant (and other recruits) are waiting to see what this new Michigan offense is going to look like.
