One of the biggest questions in this Michigan coaching search is, when will it be over? Reports are Michigan wants a new head coach in place prior to the portal opening on 1/2. There is also the need for the high school players that just signed contracts to attend Michigan next season to know who their head coach is and if the coach that recruited them will still be on staff.
The latest intel is:
- It seems Michigan is waiting to see what happens on Friday night between Alabama @ Oklahoma. If Bama wins, there is a good chance DeBoer is out. If they lose, he could be Michigan's #1 candidate.
- Kenny Dillingham still seems to be in play and for most of us could have the highest ceiling of any candidate. If you can get Kenny today, I would lock that down. Throw big $$$ at him and close this down!
- There is a rumor that Jedd is out, which seems odd at this point.
- Former Utah 66 year old Kyle Whittingham could be a stop gap coach.
My Take: It seems DeBoer might be the top candidate and there must be some type of recopical feeling if they are waiting to this weekend. Dillingham has an upside and brings great recruiting and offensive mind. He is still young and the Michigan job can be very difficult for a young head coach. I still believe it will be very difficult to pull the Bama coach even if he really wants the Michigan job. Kyle is the break glass if everyone says no candidate. He is known as a great guy and a very good coach but it would have to be a temporary relationship.
If I were in charge of this search and I could grab Kenny today, I would grab Kenny today.

If you believe the interweb, and its online so it has to be true, DeBoer's camp has told Michigan he's very interested in the Michigan job. I guess we might find out by Monday. Go Boomer Sooners.
As we know if a coach is not laser focused often it comes out on game day. I don't want to take anything away from IU, but Hartline interviewed and got the job at USF. Then his Buckeye offense laid an egg against IU.
If this Moore crap has been going on for weeks or months then possibly Michigan has been in talk with DeBoer before we knew it. And his team laid an egg against GA. Maybe he was in more talks with Michigan than we realized?? Just a thought...
Bob, I agree with your sentiment, that DeBoer might be seriously interested and the wait maybe detrimental to his cause. However, if he comes to Michigan, I will rather have a coach that's coming off of a win than a loss. The experience that he would bring is needed (as would Wittingham) and Dillingham's youth would really be the greater risk here. However, I do like the kid and think that with the weapons that Michigan has, he or most any coach would be successful.
Just as these candidates are using Michigan to bargain with their current schools for an extension if they're not hired by Michigan, Michigan's search firm is also using these names and the names of other off the wall candidates to let these guys know that Michigan has options. Competition as they say brings prices down.
I think Dillingham is also trying to negotiate something around the coaches that he would plan to bring with him, and I would imagine that DeBoer would be doing the same. I hope that we could keep the RB coach and any quality coach such as the new ST coach. IMHO!!!
Tuscaloosa is an arm pit. Have to be “southern” to want to live there.
So what you are saying is, there's a lot of inbreeding going on there like there is in Ohio?
