Now that Michigan has their new CEO of Football Operations and Strategy its time to fill out the staff.
DC - Is most likely BYU's Jay Hill as everything seems to point to Jay heading to Ann Arbor. As you know my thoughts on Wink, I wish him good luck at finding an NFL job or enjoying his $2.7M at the beach next year. A name we know might replace Jay at BYU, Shaun Nua.
OC- The next big name that is expected to head to A2 is Utah's OC Jason Beck and the fan base seems excited about the possibilities. I personally don't know a ton about Jason, but he seems very will liked and a good coach.
RB - Tony Alford has ties to Whitt and is also a great RB coach and recruiter. He is a lock.
QB - Koy Detmer Jr. is on Beck's staff and likely to head to Ann Arbor in some type of role. This is his photo:
WR - is a 50/50 between Ron Bellamy and Micah Simon - who is Beck's guy. Ron has an ace up his sleeve and it's his relationship with Andrew Marsh (who is expecting to get paid after his really good freshman year). Marsh will either stay in A2 and get a bag or head to the portal where there is plenty of $$$ waiting for him.
OL - I really wanted Grant Newsome to stay but Utah's Jim Harding is also in consideration. My lean is towards the young Wolverine with a ton of upside Grant Newsome.
TE: Is Fred Whittingham - Blood is thicker then water
DL: is between 3 guys: Lewis Powell, Luther Elliss, and Coach Lou Esposito. I like Coach Lou and he can really recruit and develop players.
ST- Did Kerry Coombs have the worst timed hire in the world? Keep the guy he knows what he is doing. Michigan needs a punter and a kicker!
Other questions marks are Brian Jean-Mary and LaMar Morgan, I expect both might be up for roles but looking for other gigs.
Kyle says he is keeping 3-4 guys from the current staff, my guess would be Tony, Ron and Kerry. With Grant having a decent shot at sticking.
Quick question: Warde - Ozempic or Stress?

Things keep getting better and better. Love the new offensive and defensive coordinators (let's keep the cork in the champagne until everyone is signed). Look at how quick and decisive things are coming together with the new staff. Remember the drama when Sherrone was hem-hawing around on who he would hire as coordinators? It took weeks, and his picks were abysmal. Wink was serviceable, but he was no Jesse Minter. I have to cut him some slack because of the hole the pathetic offense put his defense in almost every game.
Loved the introductory presser. Coach Whitt understands Michigan and already has a vision for his program. He sounded intelligent and confident. Kind of the opposite of Sherrone. Michigan football is back!
I heard Coach Whitt say he's keeping 2 or 3 of the old coaching staff, so it sounds like a fresh regime coming. Which is fine with me, based on the lack of development. Im not sold on Newsome. Yes, he is young, but age doesn't really matter much when coaching, opposed to playing. Coaching is all about the mind.
I agree with you MM, this feels like the start of something great and not just a "band-aid". If lived in or around Ann Arbor I would decorate a fire hydrant with a clown outfit and a blonde wig and put a sign next to it "here's your new girl-friend Sherrone".
How bad ass is this?

Scottydog That's a good one. Lol
I think the regents would have a heart attack if Whitt rode his Harley into the Big House. Lol

What I'm seeing with these potential hires are coaches that are very loyal to each other. Yes, they happen to be very good coaches which is what we're looking for, but it seems to be (with all due respect) very incestuous, he's looking out for his people first which is also a good thing. However, I don't see him going after let's say anyone who are strong coaches from Iowa, Wisconsin or USC, etc. staff, in other words, anyone who knows the B1G footprint for recruiting. I would imagine that those who do come because of their loyalty may even be on the staff for a while (I'm guessing of course). I wouldn't even be surprised if the plan is that the next head coach will come from within the staff. These aren't complaints, just my perception of which I may be wrong. IMHO!!!
I've said this before and will say it a 1000 times. Grant Newsome is a nice story and people might like him, he sucks as an OL coach. Time to move on...plus you need to be careful to limit carry over coaches. this staff new all about Sherrone's indiscretions and said nothing
MM/Scotty...my only issue with Whitt is his age 66....guys eventually hit the wall and just mail it in...aka Brian Kelly at LSU. College football today is a young man's game with the TP and NIL. There never was much of an offseason, but there's less so now. Even to the point, you have to continually recruit your own players to stay
and I agree with that. I've called the Michigan Football coaching staff incestuous. the continued internal hiring has led to a group think, where they circle the wagons and never question themselves. if fans truly want Michigan to return to the leaders and the best there needs to be a broom run thru Schembechler hall and that includes Warde.
You stole my word. I can't disagree but that's the natural of football coaching. its a good ol' boy network. Part of it is guy want to have people on their staff they trust. Generally coaches don't get the chance that Harbaugh had where he was able to hire multiple OCs. Generally you get one shot, maybe two to hire staff and if you screw it up, you're gone!
Chowman: Similar to Penn State situation: after witnessing a young boy being raped in the showers on campus > instead of going to police, a member of Paterno's staff mentioned it to Paterno and incredibly nothing was done. To me that was a crime in itself. GO NEW NOT OLDSOME!
The Utah O Line Coach is a huge upgrade from Newsome! He just produced the Outland Trophy winner. He takes 3-star recruits and gets them into the NFL. Newsome had 4-star recruits and they aren't getting drafted. Harding is from Toledo, his wife from MI so this is a great fit. BUT....I think they have to keep Biff for "player relations" at this time.
