Aubrey Dawkins Commits To Michigan

The son of Johnny Dawkins committed to Michigan today for the 2014 class.   Aubrey is an under the radar recruit and is rated 3 stars by Rivals.   Most services have him listed at 6'4 but he says he is closer to 6'6 and 185 pounds.

“It was a tough decision, but a degree from Michigan carries more weight than one from Dayton,” Dawkins said.  Not necessarily because it’s better academically, but because it’s Michigan.”
“Dayton was a great place.  Awesome campus and awesome people.”

“It was a great great staff,” Dawkins said regarding John Beilein & company.  “(They’re) really close to each other… (they) all kind of complement each other very well.  All very smart and intelligent guys.”

“They see me as a guy that is similar to Glenn Robinson… athletic, lean… just along those lines.  They want me to play the wing spot.”

Like Mitch McGary, Aubrey spent a year in a prep school and had 3 scholarship offers from Rhode Island, Dayton and Michigan.   He is a year older then a regular freshman and will be expected to contribute to next years team.   The trip to Europe should help him work himself into Coach Beilein's system.

Aubrey is the sixth member of Michigan’s incoming 2014 class, joining Kameron Chatman, DJ Wilson, Ricky Doyle, Austin Hatch and Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman.
