Michigan Thursday: Michigan Basketball Back to Winning

After taking its first loss of the season to a bunch of hot shooting badgers, Dusty's squad hit the road and fly across country to face UW in a late-night body clock game.   Michigan led most of the game as they were clearly the better team winning 82-72.  Mara had 20 points on 10/11 shooting and Johnson was dominate on the boards with 16 and 16 points.  I think Cadeau forgot to get on the plane, missing 5 shots and not scoring.  Yax added 14 after a slow start.

This was a nice win to start a West Coast road trip that concludes with the Ducks on Saturday afternoon. Michigan will look for some better guard play with the hopes the Bigs continue to dominate down low.  Michigan is still struggling from 3 shooting 5-23 on Wednesday night.

  • Former Michigan QB Jake Garcia jumped into the portal with no eligibility left
  • As expected, Justice signed with GT at an expected $3M for next season
  • Looks like John Harbaugh is going to the Giants with Todd Monken, that would've been my dream scenario for Michigan.  It was clear John wanted to stay in the NFL
  • QB TJ Finley has played at LSU, Auburn, Texas State, Tulane, WKU, GA State, and now signed with Incarnate Word
  • Many thought this was a weak QB market in the NFL Draft; well, it just got weaker as Dante Moore decided to stay at Oregon for another year.
  • As a reminder, the portal closes on Friday.

I guess I never saw any NFL coach as a dream scenario. I just don't think an NFL coach is a good fit for today's college landscape. Recruiting HS kids is one thing and dealing with parents who can be demanding on their own. but then you add in the TP and NIL. why would any NFL caliber coach want to coach in college. you'd end up with a Bill Belichick who really just needed to fade away. How's that worked out for UNC.

More on John Harbaugh: I'm actually shocked if he takes the Giants gig. NY is a pressure cooker. NY fans and media do not carry the team's water. sure the bar is set low as the Giants have been a poopy diaper that's been on fire for over a decade. Defensively they have a very good DL, but Jackson Dart is about one concussion away from having to wear a plastic bike helmet for the rest of his life. I would of thought the ATL would be a better landing spot. Yeah the Falcon's are a mess with their QB situation, but have you seen Bijan run? IMHO Arthur Blank > then John Mara if you're looking at the ownership groups.

and TJ Finley is everything that's wrong with the TP

I can't help but wonder if the real reason why Cole Sullivan went into the TP and eventually ended up at OU is because the new DC Hill is bringing in his 4-2-5 defense, and that he may have been concerned that he wouldn't fit well within that defense or would have been the odd man out. You'd have to look at who he'd be competing against, but I guess it's more important to view it from his perspective, i.e., how does he see himself compared to his competition. I'm thinking that if Michigan really, really wanted to make him a priority that they would have done it. IMHO!!!

Totally agree, college coaches and NFL coaches, especially head coaches, are a different breed. Wink was more cut out for the pros, and it showed.

Its all about the Benjamins. Cole wanted to get paid, and Michigan thought he was over pricing himself.

That said, we still need to pick up a quality LB in the portal. We've done a pretty good job filling needs everywhere else, tho.

John's a great coach, but things will depend on how he co-exists with his new GM. If they're not on the same page, I could see John's ego raising some hell in the Big Apple.

There was mention Harbaugh's contract with the Giants will be for 5 years and $100 million. I am guessing it's guaranteed so New York is beautiful this time of year. He will be the highest paid NFL coach.
