Purdue Post Game: Everyone is Injured

Jacob Hamilton - Mlive.com

There is no other way to describe last night's game other than ugly.  Michigan is more talented, playing at home, ranked #22, 3 TD favorite, and beat the 2-6 Boilermakers (whose last Big Ten win was in 2023) by 5 points.

Michigan has roughly 100 players including scholarship and walk-on's.  I would estimate that 25% of the roster is injured at this point in the season.  The news just kept getting worse, Barham goes out after the first series and McCulley goes down during game.

A win is a win and Michigan didn't want to have to live with a terrible loss for two weeks as they prepare for a two game road trip and the #1 team in the nation (that seems to be very healthy).  Thank you Jordan Marshall and your 21 points!

Cheers:
  • Marshall Law
    • 185 yards
    • 3 TD's
    • 25 carries
    • 7.4 yard average
    • 25 yards receiving
    • Zach with 58 yards receiving
  • Ernie had 11 tackles
  • Moore with 2 sacks
  • Michigan played 23 guys on defense
  • Kuzdzal stepped up with 23 yards!
  • Benny with the fumble recovery
  • OL seemed to play well
Jeers:
  • Bryce had a terrible game
    • fumble through the end zone
    • pick inside the 10
    • missed a butt naked open McCulley for a TD
    • over throws
    • no touch throws
    • 13/22 passing
    • a classic true freshman outing
  • Morgan had his mandated drop
  • Hollenbeck what are you doing?
  • Injuries
  • I think Wink is tipping his blitzes on tape
    • No way the Purdue OC gets lucky throwing at the open side of the blitz each time
    • Other OC's have been reading Wink's "mail" all year
  • Special Teams are struggling right now
    • Marsh fumbles a kick off and recovers it, while being tackled at the 15
    • Morgan was -2 in punt return yards
    • To many lost yards on not catching punts
    • Z didn't even attempt a field goal
    • One punt was tipped
    • One punt was shanked
    • Kick Offs not getting to the endzone

Yes, it was ugly in all 3 phases and Michigan won the game.  The Wolverines easily left 21 points on the field by mistakes and turnovers.  The number one goal now is to get healthy in the next two weeks for the final push.  Bryce needs to take the next step in his development, he is playing against grown men and he will not be able to out talent anyone anymore.  That might not happen until next year, but he could do some things now like throwing the ball with some "air under it" or "touch".

Wink needs to be better.  I know his hands are tied with injuries and playing young guys, but he must keep the defense simple.  Don't tip your blitzes and play to your talent, not your scheme all the time.

I liked Chip's game plan but Bryce just could not execute it.  More TE throws would help him with confidence, while he learns to see the field better.   Michigan needs to find another RB that can spell Marshall, the deep RB room at the start of the year is now very shallow.

Rest up, get back to fundamentals, less physical practices, play winning football for the last 3 games.

Very frustrating to watch and everyone needs to stop with excuses that we have a freshmen QB, youngest team in the Big10, etc. We have talent and we are paying and the expectation this year was playoffs and yes, it could still happen, but with Sheronne at the helm not sure. This is what we have and IF we end up at 9-3 everyone will say what a great season it was which is garbage.

I am starting to think like Chowman ..... since it was close to Halloween > is Moore possessed by the spirit of Franklin? That is .... Moore will win just enough that he sticks around for 12 years? Perish the thought! Wink for another 12 years? Enough for a serious case of "explosive diarrhea! Just think we barely beat the bottom two of the "big ten". Maybe Sherrone has some Cooper" from Ohio State in him!!

Multiple injures on the offensive line, the linebackers, the tight ends, the secondary, the list continues to grow, yet this somewhat mediocre team along with a coaching staff that's under preformed, can still see its way into getting to 10-2 anyway.

No doubt there's a need for some position coach changes, likely happening after this season, yet for this season, this team plays hard, and has yet to hear the fat lady sing.

Ryan Day's fear of losing too Michigan (again), is deep-seated into his head. Keeping "The Game" close going into the 4th quarter, controlling the clock by effectively running the ball (of which is again this team's strength ... by-far), is when Day begins looking like a deer in headlights, and are the ingredients of our 4 past victories.

Does Michigan need to get better, more in-sync over the next few weeks? Sure, getting healthier alone would give this team a big lift. Still, they lost to us last year, they certainly can this year too.

Yes, Sheronne is not going anywhere and he is the new Lloyd Carr and like you said "will win just enough" and Michigan fans will be happy with average. Lloyd won most of his games like Sheronne will. Lloyd was at Michigan long enough to compile a lot of wins, but during his tenure with the talent he had, he was the most underachieving coach. Thanks Warde, but we have to temper our expectations.

Team played like garbage. Sherrone gotta go.

It was definitely Bryce Underwood's worst game of the year.. defense did not play good but I think injuries have a say in that..

bottom line, this isn't a very good team. The WRs suck! The OL is bad. Think how bad it would be if we didn't have Jordan Marshall or Justice Haynes? yeah Bryce isn't playing well, but there are plays he has to run for his life cause the OL doesn't block anyone. MSU had trouble generating a pass rush.....until the Michigan game. Look when Jim saw his OL needed to be bolstered, he got Oluwatimi from Virgina, and the next year he got Drake Nugent and Myles Hinton from Standford and LaDarius Henderson from ASU. what did Moore do, he got a D3 OL from Ferris St and a guy from Cal Poly. not exactly OLmen factories. This guy was the OL coach at one time, its 2 years now his OL has been bad. What did Jim say about being born on 3rd base?

I hate night games and this gives me another excuse state that. I waited all day for that debacle. I heard it said “Oh it’s prime drinking time”. I can drink and smoke cigars anytime. I’m sick of all the rock and roll glitz, light flashing, and etc that has taken over college football on Saturday. Lights flashing?!? Over what? Scoring on Purdue?!? Even College Gameday has gone to crap. I’m sure everyone on here was expecting a mini blowout, myself included, guess what? Crap ensued instead. It’s going to get worse, our player one day, your player the next. Cha Ching. I can only hearken back to the smash mouth noon games. I have watched every Michigan game this year on mute, I’m even tired of the announcers. Ya’ll have a nice day…

If you want to blame Moore, then blame him for his high expectations of Bryce Underwood and all the NIL money they gave him to come here. Look what Cignetti did with the transfer portal. He is an excellent evaluator of what he needs to make a good team. Underwood has been overrated. Chad Henne won the Big Ten as a freshman. Trevor Lawrence excelled as a freshman. Bryce is in too much of a rush to move out of the pocket. He has little touch on the ball.He is good, not sure he will be great. Also this is a young team that does not quite believe in itself. The tackling in this game was sloppy as hell and alarming. Nothing like the past two years. I have no expectation for the playoff this year and it ain't Sherrone Moore's fault. The offensive side coaching on pass plays needs better coaching blood. Not so much in the play designs, but in the execution of them.

Yes sir, times have changed! .... not for the better! I was so thrilled (elated when Woody was fired) ..... but being only 25,
did not realize this was the end of an era (10 year war). Noon games forever!

stop with the excuses with have a freshman QB and the youngest team....aren't those excuses? this team isn't good. just admit it. its not a CFP caliber team and Sherrone Moore isn't good enough to be a coach at a school like Michigan. CMU? WMU? sure....Michigan? no way. he was less qualified to be a head coach than Ryan Day

Chowman said...

Thinking like me might be a dangerous thing....lol gets you banned from SB Nation.....lol Moore's not a HC at Michigan. the job is bigger than him. talk about being born on 3rd base.

Chowman said...

Please and thank you

missing Sullivan and Rolder being out hurt, and then losing Barham exacerbated it. the problem with the Wolverines begins and ends with the OL. everything this team wants and needs to do begins with the OL. the OL blows. Its not good

Chowman said...

ok stay off my lawn guy. the team played like ass. if when the game time is determines how well you play...you're not good. this team is not good. 2025 Michigan is completely mediocre

Chowman said...

Blue Monkey: if what you say is true and Sherrone isn't going anywhere, then we are all wasting our time and need to find something else to do with our Saturdays. you're not winning anything of substance with Moore as your HC. he's way over his skis

Sir Blue Monkey said...

Yes, he is in over his skis. I tune in, but if something else comes up then the game will not be a priority. It's just frustrating as we are fans and we all see it, but nothing we can do.

Problem is that's the price of doing business in today's football. now if you're arguing that NIL is better spent of college football players in the TP than HS players, I won't argue. but BU was getting a pay day from someone. I really don't care cause it wasn't my money, it was Larry Ellison's. but when you pay a kid that money, he's starting from day one. it didn't help that Moore's back up plan was Mikey Keene who was ass last year.
