Michigan Tuesday: Thinking About Minter

You know I'm not a fan of Michigan AD Warde Manuel.  I actually think he needs a leadership manual.   He has done some really head scratching things and a few good things as well.   The Dusty hire was the best thing he has ever done for the University of Michigan.  We don't need to get into his well documented mistakes and missteps.

This take is no way a knock on Sherrone.  Outside of the QB situation last season, Sherrone has done a very nice job leading this team.  My question is, did Michigan miss out on the next superstar head coach in Jesse Minter?

I watched Red Zone the last two weeks and see defenses struggling all across the league.  Not Jesse's squad.  His defense gave up 9 points last night in Vegas.   I expect Jesse will be one of the hot candidates  in the head coaching market next off season.  VA Tech and UCLA already have openings and the way the NFL has started it will be easy to see 5+ jobs open there as well.  I don't think it was a mistake that Jim's first hire was Jesse and a signal maybe Warde should've paid more attention to.

  • JJ looks to be out a month with a high ankle sprain.  Not good.
  • There continues to be Rod Moore suggestions he will play this weekend.  I hope so!
  • Rivals came out with updated rankings: #3 in the nation Carter Meadows and #8 Savion Hiter.  Yes, Please!
  • Michigan commits continue to take other visits. The Michigan coaches will need to protect against a ton of programs coming after this class.  Can you imagine the offers Meadows and Hiter are getting?
  • Bryce is the Big 10 and Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week

Think the issue with Minter is that he would never have stayed long at Mich if hired. I'm mostly positive about Sherrone - and if he pans out, I don't see him taking an NFL job. And, he has no reason to go anywhere else in NCAA, even Oklahoma.

Like Bob's synopsis about Minter ..... time will tell if the right choice was made or NOT .... stay tuned to the same bat station ....

Didn't he want to get back to the NFL?

Yes, we missed out on Minter, but not sure he wanted to be in college which I don't blame anyone. Sherone is a nice guy, but he's in over his head and it shows. Against Oklahoma you have a game plan, but you also adjust, but he didn't. He's on OLine coach at best and "cutting his teeth" on Michigan. He's not going anywhere, but it's disappointing.
