Michigan Monday: Money Mayweather

Recruiting high school talent is an interesting process. Anything can sway a young man to love your program.  It could be a cookie cake or the state of the art workout area.  It could be one of your parents went to the school and won a Heisman Trophy or the business school fits your future needs after football.  It could even be a chance to talk to an undefeated boxer.  Yes, Grand Rapids raised Floyd Mayweather, Jr. spent time this weekend speaking to 5-star CB Joshua Dobson who was on an official visit to Ann Arbor.  I assume the conversation was on the phone or over Zoom.  Whatever it takes!

4-Star edge Ifeanyi Emedobi was also in A2 this weekend and reports are Michigan made a big impression. Not sure if he spoke to any boxers but he did set his commitment announcement for Wednesday, which seems like a positive sign.

On a side note, Michigan insider Josh Henschke has left On3, we wish him well in his next role.

Most of the sporting world was focused on non-college football activity this weekend:

  • Congrats to the Knicks for winning an NBA Title.  I was really surprised at the level of basketball that was played in this series.
  • Carolina won the Stanley Cup last night, congratulations to them!
  • The World Cup is under way and the US got a W on Friday night.
  • I tried to watch the UFC last night on the White House lawn, but it seemed to go on forever between fights, looks like I turned it off when the fights got good.  A funny part of the night was when Tyson Fury came out and nobody cheered and probably didn't know who he was.  He was probably in town recruiting for James Franklin at VA Tech. 😃
  • It's US Open week for all the golf fans!
